			<description><![CDATA[While toying with the idea of playing again and leveling up 3 chars to 20 I was thinking about the challenges of making it a viable game. Which raises an obvious question:<br />
Do you want to expand the mud and generate interest in playing it or do you just want it to be the private game of a few veterans.?<br />
If its the former --<br />
1) The learning curve. I cant' fathom a person playing it for the first time and not quitting from frustration. There is not much you can do about this. The only thing I can think of is having a full zmud/tintin script for every class available for DL. Basic stuff like dr = target drow or bt = bash target or rr = sit;rest;mem<br />
<br />
2) Faction balance. Looking at the who &amp; arti list + the PvP logs. <br />
The PvP logs scream "for a game all about the ultimate PvP... there isn't any PvP happening". <br />
<br />
I read a lot of posts about specific balance issues... but thats all meaningless if the choices are 'go goodie and be bored or go evil and get stomped'. That works well for large player bases, but with the few people who play duris it seems to represent a serious problem. <br />
<br />
There should be incentives to engage in PvP and it should be easier to engage in PvP. Because a handfull of players know how to scout every zone, isn't useful to the mud. Again the logs speak for themselves. <br />
I saw mention of new maps, and that seems like a very good and necessary idea. The playerbase doesn't support the map. <br />
<br />
Also, many moons ago Duris had a problem with hitters. So they implemented a Hard Cap on damage. Seems to me that due to the flood of every better eq, this could be used on lots of other areas. <br />
HP's, vamp/round, etc. Example gnome sorce capped at 700hps regardless of eq or spells. Then people are free to gear up however they want without throwing the entire game out of balance. <br />
<br />
Lastly, WoW is offering me free level 80's to play it other games offer 3X exp weekends or similiar things to grow their base and get players back. Assuming Duris wants to remain viable, seems like that couldn't hurt.]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[Any update on the "real" wipe, some kind of estimate on how much longer etc?  As this wipe has already gotten beyond boring(unfortunately).  Evils getting steamrolled, barely any pbase.  Goodies crushing zones with no fear whatsoever about getting raided.  Unbalanced pbase, imms not wanting to listen to the players about issues that NEED to be fixed for this game to succeed, people having the same deathset forever, never dying(isnt this Land of Bloodlust - where death awaits around every corner?).  I dont know how this can be any fun for goodies or evils.  Dominating with no chance of really dying is just as boring as losing all the time with no chance of winning, unless your just a PvE carebear.  Sorry if this sounds like a rant but really I (and many others) really want to enjoy this game again but it seems like nothing is being done from an Imm's standpoint(sometimes intervention is needed to help out the losing side, its always been this way) as well as players(maybe people/leaders need to switch sides, char transfers, whatever for the good of the game).  I don't have all the answers, but I do wish I could enjoy the game like I used to.  The pbase is already dropping so I doubt Im the only one that feels this way.]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[Hi everyone, I just started playing Duris a few days ago.  I'm having fun learning about the mud, I've been killed a few times but that's part of the learning process.  I've been killed twice by "evil" players now, which is fine and to be expected, but the second time the player took everything on my corpse.  I'm not sure what I need to do to recover from this, I have some money in the bank, but I don't even know where to buy a spellbook that can hold up to 6th level spells (those are the highest lvl spells I can cast), let alone which equipment I should buy for my character.  Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance.]]></description>

What makes it really possible for a person to still get their maxed hitpoints, and 25 points of max_con so that they can afford the slots for -pulse equipment are the superitems created by Spellbind! <br />
<br />
You see players get maxed hitpoints from literally wearing two or three spellbound items.  It gives them so much more flexibility and lets them stack up on items with procs and -pulse on slots that are open because their hitpoints/damroll/whatever needs were met by 60 hitpoint bracelets and 15 max_con slippers.<br />
<br />
Also, Spellbind will always be a popular skill in this state.  Players reach end-game.. and the influx of skill points is much higher than the influx of platinum, so they utilize them on making super items.  Spellbind is the only epic skill that burns skill points, and endgamers virtually have an unlimited supply.<br />
<br />
I propose that you either:  1)  remove spellbind completely, or 2) make it so items only remain spellbound on the person who binded them.  No more spamming spellbind on everyone's items because you spent the week zoning with your broke 56.  When someone's spellbound items get looted by someone else, or given to someone else - they lose the spellbind.  <br />
<br />
People aren't being made to choose between types of eq to wear.  It's simply a checklist.  "Max hitpoints..  max saves.. max prots.. max pulse.." - This checklist is made incredibly easy via the infinite endgame Spellbinding.  Should be more of a choice.. Down with spellbind!<br />

			<description><![CDATA[I'm going to do my best to list and describe in detail each zone that one faction or the other can essentially "lock" the other out of by either killing the last quest mob, or stealing the quest item/keys...This only occurs in a FEW zones, however, it is possible to do in MANY zones. Please feel free to contribute, and be as detailed as possible, since not everyone is familiar with every all of the intricacies of said zone.<br />
<br />
Going from top to bottom on epic zones list:<br />
<br />
IceCrag Castle - There are numerous keys required to access each layer of the vault. Entry can be prevented by simply dimming to the guards or walking to them, taking the key, and hiding them in a clandestine location. The treasury key, the red key off the sentinel guards directly above the vault, the matte-black key (i think?) in the Commander's vault - are all keys that can be taken, then hidden to prevent completion of epic portion of zone. Additionally, an unrelated issue is, the keys do not break upon use, so a situation can occur in which the zone repops with people inside, and if they don't drop the keys outside the vault, wave goodbye to your loot unless someone shows pity.<br />
<br />
Jotunheim - It is possible, although I've never experienced it, nor is it very practical to prevent the other side from completing Jot epics by simply killing Utgard-Loki (who has the key to the epics) then hiding it, rather than finishing the zone. The reality is however, that if you've gone as far in as to kill that mob, you're only a few steps away from finishing the epics yourself, so I wouldn't be too worried about this one<br />
<br />
The Kingdom of Torg - You can kill the Champion in the colliseum, and then take the laurel medallion, which is a quest item for key to complete epics. Very possible to just check the colliseum for the rareload named mobs, take key, and prevent completion of zone.<br />
<br />
Sea Kingdom - I have not tested this, however, I would assume it works the same way as the Ny'neth golems - that is, you can kill the 1st golem in the very 1st room of the zone, then take the key and leave. When the golem pops again, the key will not pop with it (unless you use it or break it or rent it out). I wouldn't worry too much about this one either, although that doesn't mean it's not possible....most people if they have entered that 1st room, they plan to do the epics<br />
<br />
The Temple to Skrentherlog - A necro could theoretically go inside, and knock the chest with the amulet and drow crusher, and then not complete it, thereby blocking opposing faction - again, this is not a very likely scenario as it would make more sense to just complete the epics if you have gone this far already<br />
<br />
*Pit of Dragons - This one has occurred this wipe, and is probably a cause for concern. By killing the gate guards before the dungeons/catacombs, you can take the 'black onyx key' which loads hidden on one of the 4 guards - this will of course prevent access to the quest items needed to enter the Pit of Dragons...<br />
<br />
****Ny'neth 1-3 - MAJOR cause for concern, if not the most commonly abused. The entryway golems can be killed, and the key can be taken and hidden within MINUTES of a fresh boot/crash - thus preventing entry into ALL THREE ny'neth's for the remainder of the boot. Whoever takes the key basically has the ability to chose to start ny1-3 at any point during the boot, and also prevents the other side from even possibly entering.<br />
<br />
Githzerai Stronghold - the very first mob, along with other mobs in the starting area all have quest items, the very first mob at the entry drops a wrinkled parchment, the other quest items are called like violet bottle, and something else I cannot remember off hand . You turn these 3 items into a Githzerai captain for key to the fortress. Anyone could kill the entry warden and take wrinkled parchment and then simply dispose of it, preventing completion of epics. <br />
<br />
Bahamut's Palace - NOT a major cause for concern, but you could kill the bronze dragons just inside, and hide the key - although this would take the effort of a reasonably sized group<br />
<br />
Tiamat - To prevent completion, you can clear the golems, then the worshipers and search out a dark key. Hiding this key will prevent completion of the zone for the remainder of the boot.<br />
<br />
***Apocalypse Castle - The entry golems can be killed, the key taken, and hidden. This has been done this wipe.<br />
<br />
Charcoal Palace - The gate golems can be killed and key taken and hidden. NOT a cause for concern given it takes a formidable group and a reasonable amount of time to clear up until that point. <br />
<br />
***The Hall of the Ancients - There is a canvas bag with a sharp hook hidden in it 5 down from the 1st room of zone. Without this key, the zone cannot be completed - this is very similar to the 4horse/ny'neth issue.<br />
<br />
Celestial Plane - There is a winged devil with a hellish spiked shard, which is the key needed to complete zone. You can kill this mob and then hide the key to prevent completion, although it would take a reasonable group and a fair amount of time - this is NOT a major cause for concern.]]></description>

Tiamat - To prevent completion, you can clear the golems, then the worshipers and search out a dark key. Hiding this key will prevent completion of the zone for the remainder of the boot.<br />

***Apocalypse Castle - The entry golems can be killed, the key taken, and hidden. This has been done this wipe.<br />
<br />
Charcoal Palace - The gate golems can be killed and key taken and hidden. NOT a cause for concern given it takes a formidable group and a reasonable amount of time to clear up until that point. <br />
<br />
***The Hall of the Ancients - There is a canvas bag with a sharp hook hidden in it 5 down from the 1st room of zone. Without this key, the zone cannot be completed - this is very similar to the 4horse/ny'neth issue.<br />
<br />
Celestial Plane - There is a winged devil with a hellish spiked shard, which is the key needed to complete zone. You can kill this mob and then hide the key to prevent completion, although it would take a reasonable group and a fair amount of time - this is NOT a major cause for concern.]]></content:encoded>

My question is what are the playtimes like now? <br />
I remember not going to bed because of CR's, long ass zones, having my future wife screaming at me because I keep saying "15 more mins." 20 times in a row. <br />

I recall Duris not being condusive to married people with professional jobs, and just curious if thats still the case, or if the game is playable if you only put in a few hours per day. <br />

(Anyone remember 8 hour tiamats?)<br />

			<description><![CDATA[The aboleth mage in Alatorin - forge city, previously one of the hardest encounters in game because of the trap of the room and the number of mobs, plus aboleth mage just being badass....worthy of dropping some of the highest quality loot in the game...now is just a 5 minute mop up with a bard....the bard just goes and sings song of sleep or whatever and everyone togs vicious and targets the mage....those mobs need to be made !charm !sleep....<hr />

Seems to be pretty decent.  I've been playing around with the MSP terminal mode parsing the output into mini consoles and gauges.<br />
So far I've managed to not totally screw up the following:<ul>
<li>&lt;prompt&gt; driven gauges for Hps and Mvs.</li>
<li>&lt;group&gt; driven mini console, I like the autogroup update it sends out with health colored by damage already.</li>
<li>&lt;map&gt; and &lt;automap&gt; driven mini console.  Need to get a sloop to see the ship map and make sure it works.</li>
<li>obligatory Duris logo<br />

also have a room/container/corpse content console.  Not sold on it yet nor window placement...<br />
